1. About Career

Is chemistry, your favourite subject? Would like to combine the principles of engineering and chemistry in creating new things? If yes, you should consider a career in chemical engineering or petroleum engineering.

Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that uses principles of engineering, physics and chemistry to create chemicals and associated products for commercial usability. It involves the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into the more useful desired product. Chemical engineering applications are used in biomedicine advancement, energy, electronics, food production, environment and many other products.

Petroleum engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with exploration, extraction and production of crude oil or natural gas. Petroleum engineering is a more specialized course. Students from chemical engineering can also enter into this industry.

    • Plan and test production methods and provide support for chemical operations and equipment.

    • Monitor and analyze data from processes and experiments.

    • Develop safety procedures.

    • Troubleshoot problems with chemical manufacturing processes.

    • Evaluate chemical equipment and processes to identify ways to optimize performance or to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

    • Conduct research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes.

    • Prepare estimate of production costs and production progress reports for management.

    • Monitor the process and control over variables such as temperature, density, specific gravity, and pressure.

  • Petroleum engineer roles and responsibilities

    • Design equipment to extract oil and gas in the most profitable way.

    • Develop plans to drill in oil and gas fields, and then to recover the oil and gas.

    • Make sure that oil field equipment is installed, operated, and maintained properly.

    • Develop safety procedures.
